Canberra to Sydney - Saturday, 16 July 2011

Your heading here...

Left Canberra on a cold and overcast 6 degree Saturday at 11 am, after picking up the hire car and dropping off left over groceries with the Kellys. Had a smooth drive to Sydney and arrived at the Mecure Airport Hotel at about 2 pm and checked in. We were upgraded to a king size superior suite. Nice and roomy on the 8th floor and a nice view of Kogarah Golf Club and the International Airport.

Went over to the airport and got our seat allocations for all legs of our journey - there and back - good idea, then drove to Neil and Nina's at Point Piper for afternoon tea. We got quite lost taking a short cut through Redfern / Surrey Hills but finally arrived. It was lovely to see them again. Nina still looks the same (86) but Neil is ageing. He will be 93 in September. They gave me a lovely gold kangaroo brooch (studded with diamonds, I wish) to wear overseas. They are both so thoughtful.

Their son Jody, wife Dana, kids and dog arrived so we came back to the hotel for dinner. Had a nice dinner of pizza and caesar salad in the hotel's bistro and were entertained by a very funny Vietnamese waiter.

Very excited - off to bed - the trip begins tomorrow!
